In Portuguese: Ameijoas Na Cataplana
Ingredients:
- 1750 g clams
- 2 medium-sized onions
- 100 g smoked ham
- 100 g Portuguese meat sausage «chouriço»
- olive oil
- Red pepper powder, pepper
- coriander leaves, salt, piripiri
Directions:
Put the clams in water for some time till they let out all the sand in them.
Cut the smoked ham and sausage in small bits.
Pour the olive oil and sliced onions in the «cataplana» to fry to a golden brown.
Then add the smoked ham, sausage, coriander leaves, ground red pepper and red pepper (piripiri) and fry a little.
Then put in the clams for them to open keeping the «cataplana» closed.

very typical Portuguese cooking tool, is a copper receptacle with a tight-fitting lid used for steaming seafood (see picture below).
